Micro Crystals: Tiny crystals that are used to exfoliate and stimulate the skin’s surface to treat dull skin, brown spots, age spots, and more leaving skin polished, smooth, and glowing.

Distilled water:
Natural water usually contains a number of microscopic contaminants, along with dissolved minerals such as calcium and iron. The distillation process removes these contaminants resulting in purified water. Distilled water is nothing but hydrogen and oxygen molecules, with a PH level of 7 and no additional gases, minerals or contaminants. Distilled water is used for its purity.

*Olive Oil: High in vitamin E and K, anti-inflammatory

*Coconut oil: It’s naturally antibacterial and antifungal, coconut oil for skin is an excellent moisturizer, it can penetrate the skin quickly and is rich in vitamin E and fatty acids, for skin nutrition. The antibacterial properties of coconut oil protect the skin from potential pathogens. More importantly, it can reduce the risk of bacterial infections worsening in acne situations. It is mainly the lauric acid in the coconut oil that acts as the antibacterial agent. This medium chain fatty acid constitutes 85% of the coconut oil. Coconut oil also has a slight UV protection benefit.

Lemon Essential Oil: Lightens, tightens, and brightens skin. It also kills bacteria, breaks down oil, balances sebaceous glands, tones, and lifts the spirits.

Wild orange essential oil: Calms sebaceous glands, breaks down oil, lifts the spirits.

Melaleuca essential oil (Tea Tree)
: Contains terpenoids, which have antifungal and antibacterial qualities. It has been used to treat acne, toenail fungus, boils, and warts.

Do You Know…

…what the story is on exfoliation and facial scrubs?

A: As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This means that the body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave skin looking dull, rough, and dry. Furthermore, the build-up of dead skin cells can result in excess oil and clogged pores, leading to blemishes and acne.
Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products such as our skin cream and other AP products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy. There are many ways to exfoliate your skin.

Methods of Exfoliating Skin

The best type of exfoliation depends on your complexion and the health and sensitivity of your skin. If you have extremely sensitive skin or severe acne, you will want to choose an exfoliating product and method carefully. A dermatologist or skin care professional such as an esthetician, can help you choose the method most appropriate for you.

Chemical Peels are a skin treatment process where a chemical solution is applied to the skin causing it to exfoliate and peel. New, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. There are three different types of peels - light, medium, and deep peels.

Dermabrasion is a professional method of shedding old skin cells. These treatments can be intense treatments when done by a dermatologist, anesthetist, or other skin care professional. Machine dermabrasion treatments pull on the skin and can weaken and break capillaries, creating visible red veins on the skins surface. Skin can also be over-treated creating permanent redness and sensitivity to heat.

Microdermabrasion uses a special machine that applies a slightly rough applicator tip (either composed of tiny rough particles or a diamond tip) to the surface of the skin of the face or neck to remove the uppermost layer of skin. This results in a smoother skin texture. The procedure is painless and non-invasive. Multiple sessions may be required in some cases.

Exfoliation can involve using a facial mask, some type of device, or a scrub. If someone uses a manual exfoliating scrub, they should choose one with smooth, round granules rather than jagged, rough particles to avoid injuring your skin. (Many inexpensive, drug store scrubs use ground up seed shells, which cut the skin! Some use fruit extracts, sea salt, and oatmeal.)

Benefits to Exfoliating the Face

There are many benefits and reasons why someone should exfoliate on a regular basis. These benefits can be enjoyed by men and women.

  • Removes Ingrained Dirt: When you exfoliate regularly you help remove ingrained dirt, clean pores, smooth the skin’s surface, and improve the overall look of your face. Don’t forget to moisturize your skin after using face scrub.
  •  Helps slow down aging: Skin regenerates naturally every 30 days; however, the process slows down once you start aging. Exfoliation helps a great deal in mimicking the act of rejuvenating your skin cells, thereby boosting aging complexions. Not only will the texture of your skin improve but you will also help slow down the rate at which your skin ages.
  • Increases Cell Turnover: Exfoliating encourages the skin renewal process and makes way for your new healthy cells to shine through. When you scrub away the old flakey skin, you reveal a more soft and smooth looking skin.
  • Reduces spots: It’s a well-known fact that the biggest contributor to a spot prone skin is the build-up of sebum (a naturally occurring oil of the skin), which causes clogged pores. Exfoliation will help you get rid of sebum, thereby preventing spots and blemishes to occur on the face.
  • Shaving Benefits: Exfoliating prior to shaving has a lot of benefits. It unclogs pores so a razor can glide smoothly on a face. It also lifts up beard hairs by exposing the hair follicles and helping to get rid of ingrown hairs.

How Often Should You Exfoliate?

One of the most common questions about exfoliating is, how often you should scrub your face. The amount you should exfoliate all depends on your skin type. You definitely should not be exfoliating every day. Most dermatologists recommend scrubbing 1-3 times a week. If you have been over scrubbing stop right away and let your skin heal! Over-exfoliating can leave your skin dry, irritated, and damaged.

?    To properly exfoliate make sure you always wash your face with a non-oily, non-soap based cleanser first,
?    Next apply the scrub in a circular motion. Focus on areas around the nose and your forehead.
?    Follow up with a nice smooth and thick moisturizer to hydrate your skin (like our skin cream or sunblock)

Make no mistake about it, our new AP Anti-Aging Facial Scrub is a professional-grade product. The instructions that are on the label are as follows:

Directions: With clean hands, scoop out approximately 1/8 tsp of produce. Emulsify with a small amount of warm water in palms until base becomes creamy. With gentle fingertips and palms In a circular motion, and minimal pressure manipulate scrub on areas of concern for approximately 60 sec. {Pushing too hard can cause damage to skin. Remove with cool wash cloth.

CAUTION: Not recommended for use on individuals with visible red veins. Do not expose skin to sun, hot water, or extreme heat for 12-24 hours after treatment. Keep out of eyes. Using too often (more than 1-3 times per week) creates the potential for over stressed skin. Skin needs time to rest and recover in-between treatments in order to heal. Sunblock Is strongly recommended after each use, to calm and protect skin from solar bum and sun sensitivity, due to citrus oils and freshly exposed skin. This is a professional-grade product and directions should always be followed in order to avoid skin damage and get best results.
